On November 7th, 2010, Burma's first election day in 20 years, the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) launched a surprise attack against the Burmese junta's SPDC in the town of Myawaddy. On November 7th, 2010, Burma's first election day in 20 years, the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) launched a surprise attack against the Burmese junta's SPDC in the town of Myawaddy. By the end of the day the DKBA controlled much of Myawaddy. On the morning of the 8th, fighting intensified as the SPDC launched an offensive to take back the town. Three RPG's landed on Thai territory, in the border town of Mae Sot, during this time, resulting in at least three injuries. 20,000 refugees fled the fighting across the Muei river and into Thailand through out the day. Fighting between the DKBA and SPDC lasted into the early hours of the 9th before the DKBA fell back into the sorounding area and the SPDC regained the town. By the end of the day on November 9th almost all of the 20,000 refugees had returned to Burma and an uncertain future as the threat of violence continues to loom over the areas head.
